Position Title: Head of Immunology

Reports To: CSO

Location: Shanghai/Hangzhou


Position Summary:

The Delonix Bioworks is seeking a senior immunologist to join its Research & Development (R&D) Team. He/She will work with CSO to plan and implement all aspects of Delonix pipeline candidates’ evaluation activities and play a key role in immune assay development, immunogenicity and efficacy animal studies, technical oversight of pharmacology (PK/PD), toxicology, support pre-clinical regulatory package preparation and funding applications. He/She will work closely with other internal functional leads as well as external subcontractors and consultants and leverage his/her expertise in the areas of strategic planning and vaccine product development leading up to licensure of vaccines. He/She will have a proven track record with investigational new drug (IND) submissions and managing product development. Delonix aims to drive bacterial vaccine candidates through licensure; the head of immunology department will leverage his/her robust set of experiences and qualifications to achieve this objective.

Initially, Delonix’s R&D projects will focus on prophylactic and theopoetic vaccine candidates against AMR bacterial infection. Delonix is taking proactive action to grow its project pipeline and the incumbent will be an important part of developing a long-term pipeline strategy, developing new project opportunities and project execution.

Responsibilities:

Program and Technical Responsibilities
·Manage aspects of Delonix’s vaccine (and other pipeline) candidates’ evaluation, including in vivo and in vitro preclinical studies to support vaccine immunogenicity and efficacy.
·Support all product specific bioanalytical method development, animal model development and sample test on study protocol preparation, data analysis and study report submission.
·In conjunction with the R&D team, support the overall product development strategy with a focus on regulatory compliance
·Provide technical input on regulatory strategies and applications, including taking the lead on some preclinical aspects
·Drive the implementation of best practices for Delonix’s immunology team
·Support funding applications
·Proactively identify issues in product development and assist in providing concrete, plausible solutions.

Collaboration/Partner Management
·Coordinate with the CSO and R&D team to provide expertise and scientific direction across cross-functional teams
·Identify and manage outside contractors as appropriate
·Oversee data analysis and prepare or review the protocols and final reports for studies conducted by third parties
·Support all cross-functional needs (regulatory, quality, CMC, project management, operations, finance, etc.)
·Ensure that project deliverables are on time and in budget

Organizational Management
·Ensure compliance with internal and external policies and regulations, as applicable
·Support pipeline strategy development and external relationship development
·Supervise, mentor, coach and train team members, as assigned
·Represent Delonix and promote its mission at events and meetings
·Other related duties, as assigned

Requirements:

·PhD in immunology, biology, microbiology or related field
·10+ years relevant experience, preferably in vaccine development and in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry
·Proven expertise in pre-clinical development areas of assay development, animal study, toxicology, pharmacology, etc. and understanding of the interconnections between all other cross-functional areas
·Experience in designing and running GLP and non-GLP non-clinical studies in support of the regulatory pathway
·Experience in immune assay development including but not limited in: ELISA, Elispot, SBA, OPA and Flow cytometric assays.
·Proven ability to manage, mentor and coach people; able to build relationships and understand what motivates others
·Experience with IND application, be able to assist on the application package preparation in pre-clinical related sections.
·Demonstrated ability to draft technical documents, including method SOPs, study protocols and reports
·Expert on basic data statistical analysis and familiarity with vaccine immunogenicity data
·Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and relevant data statistical analysis software such as GraphPad and JMP.
·Excellent verbal and written communicator with ability to tailor approach toward the perspective of others
·Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels, including exective members, staff and organizational contacts; excellent at working closely with others over geographical distance
·Strong attention to detail, ability to manage complex tasks, highly organized, dependable and able to prioritize competing demands in order to meet deadlines
·Demonstrated ability to operate with purpose, urgency and accuracy in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
·Ability to travel with notice
